Information Regulator guide
The Information Regulator publishes a guide explaining how to use PAIA. The guide, prescribed request forms and current fees are available from the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za/paia. Contact the Regulator at enquiries@inforegulator.org.za, 010 023 5200 or toll-free 0800 017 160.
How to request a record
- Complete the prescribed PAIA request form for a private body and provide sufficient detail to identify the requested record, the preferred form of access and your contact details.
- Explain the right you seek to exercise or protect and why the requested record is required for that purpose.
- Provide proof of identity and, where acting for another person, proof of authority.
- Send the request to the Information Officer at the contact details above and pay any prescribed request or access fee that lawfully applies.
We ordinarily respond within 30 days, subject to any extension permitted by PAIA. Access may be granted, partially granted or refused on a ground permitted by PAIA. A requester dissatisfied with a decision may approach a court or lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator, as applicable.
